Job Title: Assistant Controller/Accounting Manager
Department: Accounting/Finance
Location: (Hybrid) Working from Home/Office – 32 Lisgar Street, Toronto)
Reports To: Director, Finance

THE OPPORTUNITY:
Sinking Ship Entertainment is looking for a dynamic Assistant Controller/Accounting Manager. The ideal candidate for this position would be an organized, detail-oriented CPA or CPA candidate, with experience in accounting in multi-entity organizations. Reporting to the Director of Finance, you will lead a small accounting team, working in collaboration with HR/payroll and other operational divisions across the company. This position requires an understanding of full cycle corporate accounting, ideally with knowledge of payroll. Experience in the filmed media and entertainment industry is an asset.
WHAT WE NEED YOU TO DO
- Supervise Corporate Accountant and A/P Specialist
- Approval of wires, EFT, transfers and other
- Review Journal entries and other transactions recorded by staff
- Direct Monthly, Quarterly and Annual closing of NetSuite books
- Prepare year‐end working papers for audit
- Manage Revenue Recognition accounting
- Coordinate with Production accountants to provide backup for Tax credit
- claims/Intercompany billings, etc.
- Manage corporate‐wide reconciliation and elimination of intercompany balances and transactions
- Coordinate with payroll to ensure timely and accurate invoicing to subsidiary companies
- Direct invoicing and settlement of all intercompany payroll and expense billbacks
- Review Daily Cash Flow to ensure funds correctly distributed to meet obligations
- Day to day bank relationship – Coordination of opening and closing of accounts, credit cards, etc.
- All other projects as required by Director of Finance
ABOUT YOU
Post-secondary education in accounting, finance or business administration or equivalent experience.
3+ years’ general accounting knowledge/experience maintaining general ledger
Highly proficient in MS Office, with advanced Excel knowledge (formulas, pivot tables, v-look ups, etc). Experience in NetSuite is a plus.
Experience with month end financial reconciliations, analysis and closing processes are a plus.
Payroll processing experience is a plus
Excellent attention to detail and high level of accuracy with the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Must be detail-oriented, well-organized, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
Self-driven and results oriented with the ability to work independently while exercising effective judgment, sensitivity, creativity to changing needs and situations.
Proactive worker with problem solving ability including recommendations of potential solutions to issues.
Change management skills are a plus as the company is growing rapidly, and effective adaptation is critical.
